Final Web Grades refers to the on-line, automated tool that allows
instructors and administrators to submit final grades
for their classes. This
tool is made available through the CMU Portal and this help guide offers an overview in utilizing this tool.
IMPORTANT: Please note that even though the
"Web Grades" link may
appear in the portal [Figure 2], the Final Web Grades application will only
be available during a limited period of time during each
semester. This on-line tool for submitting final grades will be
available starting the day your class ends through the last day
designated for grade submission.
Locating the Final Web Grades Screen
- From within the CMU Portal, click the
Academics link in the top navigation menu [Figure 1].

- Locate the My Records and Registration section and click the
Web Grades link [Figure 2].

Final Web GradeS Options
You will be given the option to select a
User Type, Term, and Year.
- User Type. If you are the professor or instructor of
the class, leave the default value of Instructor for
user type [Figure 3: See
arrow labeled "Select User Type"]. If you are in a role where you
need to submit grades on someone's behalf, choose Administrator.
- Term. Select the current term for which you are
submitting final grades [Figure 3: See
arrow labeled "Select Current Term"].
- Year. Select the current academic year for which you
are submitting final grades [Figure 3:
See arrow labeled "Select Current Level"].
- After you have finished making your selections, click Submit [Figure 3: See
arrow labeled "Submit"].

Final Web GradeS List of Courses
- A list of courses will appears according to the criteria
you have selected.
If there are courses awaiting grading (according to
the grade submission schedule), they will appear in this
list. A sample Final Web Grades Course List screen is displayed in Figure 4.
- To select the final grades for students in a particular
course, click the Go link located in the far right
column of a course's row [Figure 4: See
arrow labeled "Click to Grade"].

Final Web Grades Screen

After clicking a course's Go link, the subsequent screen
will display information relevant to that course.
Check the course information to confirm you have
selected the appropriate course [Figure 5: See
arrow labeled "Course Info"].

Displayed below the course information is a list of students who are
awaiting grading.
Next to each student's name, a drop-down box will appear allowing you
to select a single letter grade for each student

NOTE: The student names and student numbers are hidden in the
sample screen shown in Figure 5. This information will be
displayed when you view your Final Web Grades screen.
- IMPORTANT: Please take note of the information listed
under the section labeled "Important" [Figure
5: See
arrow labeled "Important Info"]. Keep in mind
that, for security reasons, a 40 minute time limit is set for interacting with the
on-line Final Web Grades interface. Details and instructions for
operating within this timeframe are outlined under this section.

Saving or Submitting Final GradeS
- After you have finished selecting a grade for each
student, you have the option to either Save or
Submit these grades.
- Displayed beneath the list of students, and toward the
bottom of your screen, you will see two buttons. One will be
labeled "Save" and the other "Submit."
- If you wish to save the grade information you've entered
but modify and/or submit these grades at a later time, click
the Save button [Figure

- If the grade information you've entered is complete and
accurate for every student and you wish to submit these
grades, click the Submit button [Figure
5: See
arrow labeled "Submit Grades"].

Returning to the CMU Portal
To return to the CMU Portal, we encourage
you to close all open Final Web Grades windows. Next, select any of
the options displayed in the left or top navigation of the CMU
Portal. Please do not use your browser's back button.
